Le Mans winner Fabio Scherer is set to make his GT3 debut on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This coming weekend, the Swiss driver will compete in the 57th ADAC Barbarossa Prize (4 hours) in the Haupt Racing Team’s Ford Mustang GT3.
Following his surprise move to the DTM, where Scherer is driving the Ford Mustang GT3 this season, the Swiss driver had already hinted that he was also aiming for a return to endurance racing. The Le Mans class winner is already familiar with the Nordschleife, having completed his permit, the driving licence for the top classes, in a Hyundai i30N during the course of this season.
‘I’m really excited to be making my Nordschleife debut, especially with HRT and Ford,’ Scherer told Endurance Archive, adding: ‘I think we’ve developed in the right direction and I hope we can replicate that on the Nordschleife. My focus is simply on completing my laps and not paying too much attention to the times.’

Before competing in the 4-hour race, the Ford driver wants to consciously take the pressure off and concentrate on gaining experience on the demanding Nordschleife. ‘Of course, I would take a win if possible, but that’s not my number one priority,’ says Scherer.
The 26-year-old will benefit greatly from the experience of his HRT team-mate Frank Stippler, who secured the first Ford Mustang GT3 victory in the Green Hell with Vincent Kolb at the last NLS race.
‘Having Stippi as a team-mate is great, of course. I’m sure I can learn a lot from him. I’m really looking forward to it and would like to thank HRT for the opportunity.’
